Search engines like Google earn their money by placing advertisements next to the search results in their engines. If these results become easy to alter, the efficiency of the search engine will decline, and people will begin using other search engines to find important data. If this happens, there is no point in selling ad space. To solve this problem, Google has begun placing brand new sites on a type of probation. During this time, it will not be easy for these websites to rank for keywords. The only way to get around this is by having a large number of quality links.
Other search engines have followed in the footsteps of Google. They may not allow new content to begin ranking for keywords until a certain number of links have been added to the site. These are obviously measures which are taken to fight webmasters who choose to use black hat SEO techniques. Many webmasters make the mistake of trying to get a bunch of low quality links. Others even resort to using link farms. When it comes to links, quality is better than quantity. When you use these spammy techniques, the only people you will help are those who own the link farm programs.
Many people are annoyed by the fact that search engines will make them get links before giving relevance to their documents, they forget what things were like before the internet existed. Before the internet, few publishing companies would publish your work unless you had credibility or connections. Even then, it could take months to years before you book reached the public. The internet has changed this, and websites can now be built within a short period of time. If the search engines won't give your content relevance immediately, take the extra time you have to build quality links.
This will bring traffic to your website, and you can still profit. Another thing you can do while you wait for the probation period to end is write more content. Why not write a 100 page book and upload it to your website as a series of articles? Doing this along with adding links will allow your site to succeed over the long term. |
