Becoming an Infopreneur

An infopreneur is someone who sells information. The information can be in the form of a book, article, ebook, software, CD, or video. Selling digital information products on the Internet is one of the quickest, easiest, and most cost efficient ways to start a web business. An infopreneur builds a web business based on their knowledge, expertise, work experience, hobbies and passions. The Web Developer/ Programmer who writes software and applications to distribute online is a type of infopreneur. The SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) expert who distributes tutorials/ebooks online is another type.

There are 4 main ways of selling information products on the web.

1) Be an affiliate

Join an affiliate program and sell products for the affiliate program owner. Most affiliate programs are free to join, so you are getting a product to sell at no cost. For more, refer to the HowToMakeMoneyWeb.com Affiliate Marketing section.

2) Buy resell rights to a product.

This can be costly but it can also be very profitable. When you buy resell rights you are given the code for a sales page for the product and you just have to park the page with your domain. One disadvantage of selling a product that you bought resell rights to is that many other people may have also bought resell rights so it is very competitive. To succeed, you have to be unique and differentiate your product from all the others. If you buy a product with resell rights you can sell the product, but the person that buys it from you does not have the right to sell it. If you have master resell rights then your customer can also sell the product.

3) Market someone else's product

Search and find a great product that someone has created but has not marketed. They may either not have the time or do not know how to market it. In this scenario, you can work out a joint venture (JV) with them where you receive rights to market the products and give them royalties. These deals are difficult to find but when you do find one it can be very rewarding.

4) Create your own product.

Many infopreneurs find their niche around their area of expertise and knowledge, write original digital content (eg. ebooks) and distribute it online for a fee. They may also use Adsense ads on their website to generate revenue. The obvious benefit of creating your own product is that you own it and control it. You can continue to make money with it for a long time. You can create affiliate program and get affiliates to distribute for you. You can modify it and sell upgrades to your original customers . The disadvantage is that it takes time to create the product. Software programs for example, take an especially long time to create and test.

If you know your subject matter and are motivated to build a real business, then consider becoming an infopreneur.
